Randall Leoncio A true war hero. In 2006 he lost his limb above the knee to an IED (Improvisational Explosive Device) in Iraq. Left with a short trans-femoral amputation caused problems with his prosthetic fittings for over 8 months. He couldn't wear his prosthesis comfortably for any extended amount of time. His previous life of extreme activities was greatly missed. |

After being introduced to Michael Pack at the Navy Medical Center's prosthetic rehabilitation center, a new plan was put into action. He would be fit with a custom designed socket that would accommodate his scar tissue and bone growth that caused him so much discomfort. Every possible socket design was utilized to accommodate his badly scared limb. The chosen system is the Double Walled Vacuum System. This fitting technique incorporates a silicone liner and an inner socket that utilizes vacuum for suspension. With this system, Randall is able to walk long distances without pain or discomfort to the skin grafts on his limb. He has returned to an active life of off-roading in his 4X4 and recently tried to surf again. He was made a special limb for the water that doesn't incorporate a knee but is angled to allow him to get into his surfer stance. Who knows what his future holds, we only know it will be extreme. |
